January 2019 CPD
Let's Talk About Sex
Sometimes a client will present with one problem, but the real reason they have come is very hidden. What happens when the hidden issue emerges after a period of time? What happens when the hidden issue is about sex? Have you ever worked with a client who suddenly announces they have a sexual issue? How did you feel? How did this impact on the therapeutic relationship?
This CPD talk will consider all manner of difficulties and explore ways of working to help you feel more confident when talking about sex and sexual issues. You will learn about different sexual dysfunctions, how they impact on the client, on their relationships, or inability to maintain or begin a relationship.
You will learn what kind of questions can ascertain whether you can continue to work with the client, or whether signposting to a GP or Psychosexual Therapist would be more appropriate and beneficial to the client. You will also learn how to ascertain whether someone has an issue with sex or a porn addiction (although exploring this fully may be the subject for another CPD talk).
When ill prepared or informed it is easy to react. Jillian will give examples of how sexual issues can come into the room, how to manage the unexpected, respond appropriately, as well as deepen and extend your knowledge base.
Date: Thursday 10th January
